Disco Studios Code of Conduct

Standards

Community is at the heart of all our Disco Studios’ live learning experiences because learning in community is how people learn best.

Creating a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful learning community where all members can show up and contribute as their best selves and thrive is a shared responsibility of all those involved in any of our learning experiences. To that aim, everyone who participates in Disco Studios’ experience agrees to abide by this Code of Conduct - including participants, facilitators, guest speakers, instructors, teaching assistants, staff, volunteers, and sponsors.

Disco Studios is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neurotype, physical appearance, body, age, race, class status, ethnicity, nationality, language, or religion.

Upon agreeing to this Code of Conduct, you agree to abide by the following Community Agreements and understand that anyone who violates these agreements may be expelled from these experiences at the discretion of the Disco staff.

Our Community Agreements

We are participants, not passengers.

In a community-centered learning experience like those offered by Disco Studios, collective success depends on everyone’s commitment to participation. We show up on time and come prepared to actively participate and treat everyone with dignity and respect. We clearly communicate what we expect and need. We bring our best selves to our work and to the thoughtful feedback we provide to support our fellow participants.

We are kind and curious.

We are all coming into our interactions with different sets of experiences and knowledge. Everyone knows a little and together we know a lot. We encourage everyone to approach conversations, problems, and challenges with kindness, care, curiosity, candor, and an openness to learn and grow.

We are generous and accountable.

We are generous, clear, and brief in sharing relevant contributions that enrich our community learning experience while respecting, encouraging, and making space for the contributions of others. We acknowledge and take responsibility when our intention (what we aimed for) does not align with our impact (how it landed). We avoid sharing spam or promotional content (unless this is specifically invited).

We respect confidentiality.

We keep the specifics of what is shared and by whom within the learning community, unless we have the explicit permission to share it elsewhere. We are welcome to share our personal learnings and insights outside of the learning community while respecting confidentiality.

We acknowledge learning is a messy, human process.

We recognize part of learning is sitting in the tension of dialogue with those we might disagree with. We choose to show up with empathy, confident humility, and a beginner’s mind. This means engaging with conversations with curiosity without assuming malice while knowing the other party will do the same.

We create a brave and inclusive environment with no tolerance for malicious behaviour.

Our goal is for everyone participating in the learning experience to feel welcome, included, and respected. To that end, malicious behaviour, harassment, and offensive language will not be tolerated, nor do we tolerate anyone intimidating, humiliating, or sabotaging others within this community.

Reporting and Enforcement

We're here to help and support.

If you are being harassed by a member of the Disco Studios community, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns or questions, please contact Lisa Lambert (Disco’s Head of Learning) or Sonia Sidhu (Disco’s Creator Lead) via email (lisa@disco.co or sonia@disco.co) to discuss. If the person who is harassing you is a member of the Disco team, they will recuse themselves from handling your incident.

All reports will be handled in the strictest confidence. We will respond as promptly as we can.

Consequences

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior or to correct behavior that violates the Community Agreements are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, Disco may take any action we deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from current and future Disco Studios experiences without a refund.
